Dear Gentle Reader*,

We delighted in our travels to five Contra Costa County Libraries during Black History Month 2026. Sharing the love of literature, culture, and crafts, we engaged with many children and families. Me On the Page is honored to participate in Black Children’s Book Week as an ambassador of children’s literature and culture shifter.* The smiles and delights were endless!

Please enjoy these captured moments. I’m fortunate to have a friend who enjoys taking photos. Joyce Richardson thank you, it’s wonderful to look back at the moments shared.

*Culture influences language, and language influences culture………If you are a fan or have watched Bridgerton, you probably caught the tone in my writing right away. In case you haven’t watched, Bridgerton is a series on Netflix produced by Shonda Rhimes. The series revolves around the adventures of eight wealthy siblings in their search to get married. The town and country thrive on the written newsletter updates from Lady Whistledown. Her gossip and predictions tickle and inform the citizens, including Queen Charlotte.

Perhaps what I enjoy most about the series is the intentional representation and normalization of ethnicities and cultures. My connection in this blog post is to remind that language and culture are intertwined….We are influenced and influencers at the same time. Let’s normalize the inclusion and acceptance of all cultures in literature, conversation, and living.
