Wow!
Twenty-eight days was not enough to celebrate the joys, inventions, contributions, and significance of African American people and culture. Surely many new inventions, authors, culture shifters, books, and creatives are being birthed as I write.
Honoring the past and looking towards the future, I’m sharing a few collages from my many purposeful events in February. Thanks to our Contra Costa County Libraries Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee for having the vision to celebrate Black Children’s Book Week all month. So many families benefited from these intentional activities. Black Children’s Book Week is celebrated annually during the last week of February. It is a global celebration of Black children and the people who ensure Black children are represented in books and other children’s media.
In addition to author activities, I participated in two other impactful events. The first was with Saint Mary’s College of CA’s Black Alumni’s panel discussion with senior students, faculty, and alumni. Hearts were receptive, as insightful gems were exchanged and shared. The second event was a community health walk collaboration between the NBA and GirlTrek at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. GirlTrek is the nation’s largest health initiative for African American Women.
Here’s to more Joys to Come,
Phelicia
