Breaking Barriers

Me On the Page continues our celebration of Black History Month by highlighting another outstanding and up standing African American educator. This week we honor Dr. Lawrence Rasheed!

Always preapred to Represent!

Dr. Lawrence A. Rasheed is a native San Diegan. He is a lifelong learner who has been in education for over 20 years. He has taught at the elementary, middle, and high school levels; in addition, he also has administrative experience, as well as teaching ESL to adult students.

Dr. Rasheed is well lettered. He received his bachelor’s degree in English from The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and his teaching credentials from Project Pipe Line/Fortune School of Education (Sacramento, California). He has a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction and a doctorate in Administration and Educational Leadership from The University of The Pacific in Stockton, California. He recently completed his second Master’s in Literacy Education from California State San Marcos.

Dr. Rasheed’s proclivity to assist African American males led him to become the founder of R.A.A.M.P. (Reaching African American Male’s Potential). The program was founded in 1993 and was implemented it in several schools within the San Diego Unified School District. R.A.A.M.P. was later implemented in Antioch Middle School in
2007-2008. Subsequently, R.A.A.M.P. Charter Academy emerged. It was originally intended to be a single-gender school for African American males.

Dr. Rasheed now continues his passion and calling to ameliorate African American males; while symbiotically conveying and championing positive perception of their social, academical, and personal accomplishments. P.O.W.E.R. (Providing (W)holistic Educational Resources) Consulting and G.R.I.O.T. (Greatness Rediscovered In Our Time) Mentoring gestalt, both serve as a conduit to continue Dr. Rasheed’s role in the “village” of altruistically affirming and assisting African American males.

Dr. Rasheed refuses to take no for an answer, and can often be found behind the scenes collaborating, networking and orchestrating pathways for African American Males. Lawrence is unapologetically Black in speech and in deed. He’s proven to be savvy in achieving success for children by any means necessary.
