As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, I’d like to honor and celebrate a few Latina Sheroes who are on the frontlines everyday sculpting and designing quality lessons for students. They are the ones, We’ve (parents and generations) have been waiting for, and the time is now to showcase them.
First up is Marlein Jeans a phenomenal Kindergarten teacher in Antioch Unified School District. She’s taught first- second grades for over twenty years, and Kinder for the past three. Her road to the classroom is as interesting and adventurous as she is.
Marlein graduated with a degree in microbiology. She’s a yoga instructor, nutritionist, avid adventure seeker, and also a former molecular genetic researcher. I met Marlein when I was at a cross-roads in my teaching career. I found her approach to teaching dynamic and style non-threatening. Gleaning all I could from her at the time, I applied what she taught and began to see immediate results with my students. She is a teachers teacher and a trainers trainer! Every chance I get I visit her classroom to be enlightened and inspired.
She specializes in developmental, hands-on and highly active approach to teaching, and develops lessons using brain research to stimulate neuron formation and activation. In short: she kills it in the classroom and her students high engagement translate to high performance across subject areas. She’s an advocate for hands-on learning and empowering students to take charge of their own learning.
Honestly, Marlein is quick to abandon any technique, mandate or curriculum that does not translate to student movement, engagement and joy in learning. For this I celebrate my Chica!!! Take a bow girl! You are all that and a bag of chips in my book:)
I salute you my Friend for all that you do to accelerate the learning for our students and teachers. And….all that you do to remind and inspire me to continue to fight for what is best for Our kids!! Love you Chica!!
But you don’t have to take my word for it. Check our her Facebook Group: Explore and Learn
