There’s Another Door

This morning as I was walking on the treadmill, I was listening to a Podcast with the same title; There’s Another Door. A familiar story which generally echoes the persistence and faith of a man and his friends in their pursuit of his healing.

I began to think of how often we as parents have to believe against the odds, speak against the odds and help frame the words of others concerning our children- against the odds.

We too, have taken them to another doctor, another school, another daycare….etc. to obtain what was best for them. Like the man in this biblical passage, we knew that there was a better way. What most encouraged me about this story is the fact that his friends had to be out of the box thinkers; the door was closed. It was crowded. No one else could get in. They were too late. They just missed it!

But this was not their mindset, they didn’t take no for an answer, they did their research, set their minds and acted upon their plan.

What reality are you framing for your child? Is there a report you’re refusing to accept because you know you need a second opinion or second, third, fourth, fifth look? I encourage you today that there is another door!  Frame in your mind what is best for your child and accept nothing less. Fittingly, a quote from political activist Shirley Chisholm, “If they don’t(won’t) give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.” This my friend, translates to me, just because your request “hasn’t” been done before, doesn’t mean “it can’t” be done! Keep knocking or find another way in to get what is best for your child.

If your child has a unique learning style or challenge, Understood.Org is a great resource to find answers, solutions, and support to help you advocate for them.
